Memory Care Programmer

The Memory Care Programmer is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing activities for our Alzheimer’s and dementia care residents that include a variety of recreational and social activities which support spirit, mind and body.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Organize, direct and encourage an activities program that will provide entertainment, intercommunication, exercise, relaxation, and fulfill basic psychological, social and spiritual needs for our memory care residents; activities should also incorporate wellness.
  • Initiate and promote activities both inside and outside the community to stimulate and promote resident interest and general wellbeing.
  • Encourage hobbies and craft activities among residents in groups or individually.
  • Provide stimulating activities for all levels of dementia.
  • Assist the Memory Care Director in creating a monthly newsletter.
  • Encourage social communication among residents through group activities and recreation.
  • Encourage residents to assist in the planning of activities, events and/or functions as appropriate.
  • Encourage residents to participate in religious activities to fulfill their basic spiritual needs, through visits with chaplain, pastor, elder or other religious leaders, attendance at religious services whenever possible, spiritual reading material, and other spiritual opportunities.
  • Encourage intellectual / educational development through literature, movies, cultural events and other creative forums.
  • Maintain a record of each resident’s participation in activities.
  • Evaluate resident response and participation in scheduled activities; report unusual observations to the Memory Care Director.
  • Develop and maintain plan for obtaining weekday and weekend activities relief personnel.
 

The successful candidate will…

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Have experience working with residents with Alzheimer Disease, dementia and other related memory or cognitive impairments.
  • Have experience creating and executing memory care activities and events for multiple residents.
  • Have or be able to complete and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Understand safety and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Possess good organizational skills and have the ability to multi-task.
  • Have basic computer skills.
  • Be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Be a customer-focused, proactive and creative problem-solver.
  • Be committed to and passionate about serving customers and delivering best-in-class service.
  • Have patience, tact, enthusiasm and positive attitude towards older adults and their families.
  • Possess the ability to effectively and professionally engage, interact and collaborate with residents, residents’ families, associates, etc.
  • Be willing to take, and able to pass, a drug screen, TB test and a physical.
  • Be willing to consent to, and able to pass, a criminal background checksealpaper.
